Magnetovolume effect in the exchange-enhanced itinerant paramagnet YCo2: theory and experiment

Abstract

The detailed theoretical study of the anomalous magnetovolume effect in the exchange-enhanced itinerant paramagnet YCo2 was carried out on the basis of DFT calculations of the electronic structure in external magnetic field. This study was complemented with the experimental data of the behavior of magnetic susceptibility χ under high hydrostatic pressure. The results of calculations of magnetic susceptibility and the magnetovolume effect dlnχ/dlnV are in a reasonable agreement with the experimental data, indicating the proximity of YCo2 to the ferromagnetic instability.
