High-resolution spectroscopy of rare-earth ferroborates with a huntite structure (Review Article)

Abstract

A review of the results of spectroscopic studies of rare-earth ferroborates RFe3(BO3)4, R = Pr – Er, Y of high optical quality is presented. Structural and magnetic phase transitions, spin-phonon and electron-phonon interactions were studied by high-resolution spectroscopy, physically-based sets of parameters of the crystal field were found, and a number of properties of the RE ferroborate were modeled.
