Thermodynamic aspects of creating effective cryogenic helium units of the high performance with dynamic action machines (Review Article)

Abstract

Various types of effective cryogenic helium units with dynamic action machines have been proposed. The creation of a helium refrigerator with an energy-cryogenic stage (ECS), in which helium is compressed at the temperature of 85.8 K in a cold centrifugal compressor, is also considered. Optimization of the refrigerator along with the ECS was performed at the same cooling capacity of 576 W at a temperature level of about 4.5 K. The use of liquid nitrogen in the refrigerator was not provided. It is shown that it is possible to develop an effective helium refrigerator based on only dynamic-action machines — centrifugal compressors and centripetal turbo-expanders.
