Abstract

The magnetization of the antiferromagnetic magnetoelectric LiCoPO4 crystal as a function of temperature and intensity of a magnetic field directed along the antiferromagnetic vector is studied. The dependences exhibit some features caused by the presence of a weak ferromagnetic moment. The magnetic moment component along axis b at 15 K is approximately equal to 0.12 Gs. The existence of the ferromagnetic moment is suggested to be responsible for the anomalous behavior of the magnetoelectric effect observed earlier in this crystal.
