Abstract

The paper contains the elements of the theory describing the behavior of noninteracting electrons in one-dimensional systems, namely, the transport characteristics of an ideal wire which connects two thermostats, the elastic scattering by a random barrier sequence described by the Landauer formulae, the gigantic aperiodic oscillations of resistance, localization and its sensitivity to correlations in a random potential.
