Abstract

In the framework of heterophase fluctuation model a theory of polyamorphous transformations in glasses is developed with taking into account that glass inherits short-range and medium-range orders of liquid. A multicomponent order parameter which describes the fractions of fluctuons of different short-range order types is determined. Isoconfigurational and non-isoconfigurational phase transitions in glasses are defined. Taking into account non-ergodicity, non-equilibrium and multiplicity of structural states of glass, a kinetic constrain of polyamorphous transformation observability is formulated. As an example, a theory of low-temperature polyamorphous transition in doped fullerite based orientational glass is developed. The relaxation processes in this system, including a subsystem of tunneling states, are described. A possibility of continuous polyamorphous transformations in glasses is discussed.
