Higgs effect and magnetoelastic gap in ferromagnets

Abstract

It is shown that the magnetoelastic gap initiation in a ferromagnet has a cause which is common with the phenomenon of formation of a mass for the Higgs boson. The “easy plane” ground state in an uniaxial fer-romagnet is studied with accounting for magnetoelastic interaction. The strain tensor components of the ferro-magnet in the ground state, the magnetoelastic gap and renormalization of the magnetic anisotropy constant are determined.
