Abstract

Here we review recent works on magnetization dynamics induced by femtosecond laser pulses. It is shown that the effect of a light pulse on spins is equivalent to an action of an equally short pulse of effective magnetic field. As a result, the laser-induced magnetization dynamics can be described with the help of the Landau–Lifshitz equation.
